There have been many things in the world of sports which has spiked my interest over the last few weeks. I have also for a while thought about creating my own sports blog to post my thoughts on topics of interest. With the start of summer, I found this to be a perfect time to start it out, and now here we are!
I plan to post my thoughts and comments on things going on in the world of sports. Most of my blogs will consist of things related to the major sports teams in the Metro Detroit area. However, I will dabble a bit into other stories around the country that spike my interest and will even take requests from anyone who reads my blog for my thoughts concerning something they have an interest in.
I feel in order for anyone to know where I'm coming from with my blogs, I should give a background of my sports interests. First and foremost, I am a big football fan of both college and pro ranks. I still love baseball, basketball, and hockey, but they all fall behind my addiction to football. I really could care less about soccer, with an exception to the World Cup. I find that tournament to be fascinating and I attempt to watch as much of it as I possibly can. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and have a few ties of interest to the Penguins and Steelers. However, I really didn't get into sports until after I moved to the metro Detroit area back in 1990. For some strange reason, I have developed a large interest in the Detroit Lions, perhaps I enjoy the optimistic hope of each season only to be trounced with the agony of each defeat. I love the Tigers. I suffered though the bad years being a witness to 119 losses in one season and have enjoyed their success the last couple years. I have also loved the Pistons ever since I started watching basketball back during the end of the Bad Boys era. I am anxious to see the direction that Joe Dumars takes this franchise after their success over the years. Lastly, there aren't many people who grew up in metro Detroit who don't love the Red Wings. The wings have been the most dominant team in hockey since I got into hockey back at the beginning of the 90's. However, compared to other sports my love for the hometown team isn't alone. I am a big fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. I got into hockey in the middle of the Penguins back to back Stanley Cup runs. Having been born in Pittsburgh it was a natural connection for me to make and I have been a fan ever since. That being said, its very hard to grow up in Hockeytown and not make a connection to the Red Wings. Over the years I have grown to become big fans of both teams and I can't even make a distinction of which team I like more. I love them both and was in heaven watching 6 games of my favorite teams in the Stanley Cup finals. I didn't care who won, I just wanted a long hard fought series and that is exactly what I got!
Now that I have thrown out my sports background I feel that this blog is ready to get going. I hope that I can create interest for anyone who might read my blogs. I hope some people agree with my thoughts and I hope that I ruffle some feathers cause people think I'm completely off base. My goal is to objectively look at things and post my opinions. I plan to provide links to video's and news articles that spark my interest and hence, leave my thoughts in regards to them. Please feel free to comment and debate any points made during my blogs that you agree or disagree with.
On that note, I am excited to see where this blog goes and what happens in the world of sports!
